Fortunately Vince got us there just in time (after much sweat and hopping of a fence or two). Alcatraz was so interesting even if the crowds were a bit much for us. There was a former inmate who recently went public about his time there. He gave a firsthand account of what it was like to be a prisoner there and answered questions. We spent a few hours on the island between his talk, the audio tour, and some exploring on our own.
When we'd had enough we headed back to the city and made our way to Pier 39 to eat the Sea Lion Cafe. The food wasn't great but the view of the sea lions, the city, and the bay were wonderful. We did some sight seeing around Fisherman's Warf and finished up the day at Ghirardelli Square with a brownie sundae. It was delicious!
We rode the bus back to the BART station in Union Square and headed back to San Ramon in rush hour. We had another relaxing night with Pat and Jeff and an amazing dinner and wine.
After climbing our first hill that morning we passed this, thankful that we didn't have to go that way
Here I am, relaxing after our climb and gloating that we didn't have too far to go. I had no clue what we were in for!
We did see some amazing parts of town as we walked...we like doing the non-tourist things
Our hike also lead us right to Coit Tower
