California Vacation - Day 3 (6.12.11)

So we're clearly a day behind each night that we post but we have done too much to stay up to date.  Day 3 was by far the most amazing.  We spent some unforgettable time in Cambria in the morning then ventured out to Hearst Castle.  By just after lunch we were headed down Hwy 1 and the hair pin turns, steep climbs, and breathtaking views.  We always get a little bummed when we miss church on Sundays but this was the most worship inspiring day.  We just kept marveling at God's creation!

We stopped at Limkiln State Park (which is one of the smaller, less popular parks as you get into Big Sur) and hiked 3 different trails.  We almost gave up a few times on our second trail because it had clearly suffered from a few land slides and we had to climb under and over fallen trees.  We are so thankful that we persevered because we finally came upon a huge mountain with a gorgeous water fall.  It was awe inspiring!

As we reluctantly left we continued on, further into Big Sur.  The views got better and better and we made our way to Julia Pfieffer Burns State Park.  We hiked out to the coastal side where there is a waterfall into a cove of the Pacific.  Our pictures don't even look real!  There are multiple trails within that park but most are closed from slides and it was getting a bit late by the time we made it there.

Our last stop for the day was at the Bixby Bridge just before sunset.  It was crazy to see a man-made wonder fitting so perfectly in nature.  We finally made it to our Comfort Inn in Carmel (a little more modest than the night before but quite pretty and comfortable).  We had to rush to dinner to find one of the last open restaurants.  After a relaxing and yummy meal at Jack London's Grill and Taproom we came to rest up for today's long and super fun day that you'll hear about later!

Walking along the boardwalk on Moonstone Beach in Cambria.

We climbed down to a rock landing that was completely secluded and ate our "picnic breakfast" from the Inn.

View of the Blue Dolphin Inn from the beach.

View of the Pacific from Hearst Castle.

One of the dining rooms in Hearst Castle...this is what the Hogwarts Great Hall in Harry Potter was modeled after.  They wouldn't let them film there but they came and sketched ideas there.
