California Vacation - Day 4 (6.13.11)

We are home now and finally getting a chance to relax and finish uploading all of the pictures to the computer.  Sorry for the long delay in posting!  I will make a separate post for each day so you get the idea of what we did.

So day 4 started with more hiking at Point Lobos near Carmel.  We hiked a total of 6 different trails (we haven't added up the miles yet) over 3 hours.  The views were amazing and we went through a variety of terrain.  The wildlife we saw included sea otters, sea lions, harbor seals, a family (mom, dad, and babies) of quail, and a snake slithering directly in front of us.

After Point Lobos we headed to Monterey, had lunch at the old Fisherman's Warf, then visited Cannery Row, and the Monterey Aquarium.  Although it was much more crowded with tourists and families we still had fun.

We got back to our hotel in Carmel by about 6:00, just as most of the shops in town were closing down.  We still walked around, bought a few souvenirs, and asked for dinner suggestions.  We ended up at Little Napoli's which we have decided had the best food and atmosphere of all the restaurants on our trip.  We were sad to be heading back into city life the next day so we walked down to the beach in the dark to savor it for a little longer.

Here are the pictures we finally narrowed it down to:
Point Lobos

Secluded beach at Point Lobos

Long stair case to get to the beach...maybe that's why it's secluded

Lunch at Shake's Old Fisherman's Grotto in Monterey (creative way to get both of us in the picture)

Harbor seal sunbathing in a boat

Cannery Row

Sea Otters at the Monterey Aquarium

The Monterey Aquarium has the largest jelly fish exhibit

Back in Carmel

Delicious Italian dinner
