California Vacation - Day 6 (6.15.11)

After a good night's sleep Pat drove us to the BART station and we rode the train in to town with all of the commuters.  We made it to Union Square pretty early and sat in the park having coffee and smoothies.

We took a sightseeing bus tour around the city and saw more than we can even remember.  The highlights were Golden Gate Park, catching a glimpse of Robin Williams' house, and seeing an arrest by an undercover cop.  It was cool to see all of the different parts of the city, culture, and architecture.

After our 3 hour tour we headed to check into the hotel.  We stayed at the Park Hotel because of the location (in Union Square) and the price (only $80).  We weren't sure what to expect but it wasn't too bad...we've been describing it as a dorm built in maybe the 1920's.  It was clean and had a bed and toilet so we were good.

On the tour we only had 20 minutes at Golden Gate Park and we had decided we wanted to go back.  It was so beautiful and they had a few different exhibits at the museum to see.  We figured out the bus routes and road one down (meeting a very friendly, elderly Chinese man).  We made our way through the park to the de Young museum.  Since we were getting there a bit late we were only able to see the Picasso exhibit.  It was interesting and we decided he was crazy.

After our museum time we decided to take a cab back to the hotel (waste of money when we could have ridden the bus).  We rested a bit and did some Yelp searching for food.  We walked through Chinatown and ate dinner at The Hunan Homes.  After dinner we walked around little Italy and stopped in for some tiramisu even through we weren't hungry.  It was a fabulous night in the city!
