When we got there we got a map with some walking tours and set off to see what there was to see. I'll let the pictures take us through the walk but we took John's advice and found an Irish pub for lunch. When it came to dinner we opted for pannenkoeken or Dutch pancakes (similar to crepes). I have to say that I still think Oma, mom, and I make them better, these were very good.
When we finished up in town we took the train back to Enkhuizen. We walked from the station to Joop and Leis' house to visit for a while and let John know we were back in town and ready to be picked up. It was so nice to spend some time with them. We got to see some pictures of my great grandfather and Opa's resemblance to him was amazing. We never had pictures of him before so it is so neat to have some now.
They were reluctant to call John to pick us up but it was closing in on 11:00 and we'd had a long day! We would not have traded the time for anything. We finally headed back to John and Vicky's house and got ready for another day in A'dam.

An entrance the Amsterdam Museum. We didn't go in but you can walk through the buildings.
The English Church inside the Begijnhof
The Begijnhof is a hidden group of houses lived in by nun-like women. You have to find a hidden door off the street to get in to it and it is so peaceful and quiet.
This is the oldest preserved wooden church in the whole country (from about 1475) inside the Begijnhof
In the hallway as you leave the Begijnhof
The Bulldog in Leidesplein is the most famous coffeeshop in Amsterdam...and no, they do not sell coffee
Cafe Americain - fancy hotel and restaurant where we stopped to cool off, get some coffee, and sit for a bit in Liedesplein.
Yummy iced coffee - it was hot that day
The Vondelparkpaviljoen in Vondelpark
Vondelpark - we were there for the first (and possible only) sunny and warm week this whole summer
The Rijksmuesum - it is under construction and we were too late to go into the small part that they have open but it was neat to see it from the outside
The "I amsterdam" sign
Rijksmuseum from another side
The floating Blomenmart or Flower Market - we were past the main flower season so it was mainly bulbs for sale
Tushinski Theater - a movie theater that opened in 1921 and is considered one of the most beautiful
Rembrandtplein (Rembradt square) with street performers, terraced restaurants, etc.
The bridge in the background is the famous Magre Brug or skinny bridge. You can also see the Hermitage Amsterdam in the distance to the left
Rembrandt's house
My Opa was named Henk and loved herring so this was a perfect picture
Koninklijk Paleis (Royal Palace) on the Dam (Dam Square)
The monument on the Dam to commemorate victims of WWII
