Tween friendly Austin

Last Friday I met my sister-in-law Heidi to pick up our nephews Trevor (13) and Justin (11).  We had so much fun showing them around Austin, feeding them deliciously unhealthy food, and watching them play with Mack.

Friday night we took them to Kerby Lane to eat queso and breakfast for dinner. They loved it!  Saturday we headed to Juan in a Million for delicious breakfast tacos.  The boys were amazed at how huge the Don Juan was and we were all amazed when our bill was taken care of by a mysterious gentleman...we later found out that football player Michael Huff had been there and paid for the whole restaurant.  We then went to the Bob Bullock Museum to learn some Texas history and see an IMAX about tornadoes.  We finished up the "sightseeing" with a trip to Sno-Beach for the best snow cones around.  Saturday night we made pizza and cinnamon rolls from scratch...yum!  Lucky for us ABC Family had a Harry Potter movie on each night so we could snuggle up and get ready for today's premier.

Sunday we took the boys to church.  Our "rock band" worship team is a bit different from Church of Christ but they liked it.  Then they helped us out in Kidstuff with the 2 year olds.  We spent the afternoon with the Ensigns at the dog park and then came back to swim and make tacos.  We introduced the boys to one of Vince's all time favorite movies, Cool Runnings, which they thought was made in either the '70's or '80's.  Despite the hilarious mistake they loved the movie which we followed up with more Harry.

Uncle Vince had to head back to work on Monday, to the disappointment of all of us.  I took the boys kayaking on Town Lake.  Justin and I shared a double kayak and Trevor had his own.  We all had fun but definitely didn't need to be out there any longer than an hour.  We had packed a picnic so we headed to Deep Eddy pool for lunch and swimming.  We swam again when we got back home and helped Mack get out all of his energy before Vince got home.  The rest of the evening was spent at Chuy's and watching ESPN.  (No pictures from Monday...sorry!)

The boys had to head back on Tuesday but we were so glad they came and we had so much fun!!

Justin was amazed at how big the "half size" pancakes were!

Katie hung out with us on Saturday while Derek was studying.  We are together all of the time and we never have evidence of it because we're just doing life stuff...so here, picture evidence!
